Bare Foot Path
Discover your surroundings on bare feet? That’s possible at De Helderse Vallei! On the bare Foot Path you can discover Den Helder, but then in ‘miniature’. Young and old discover on bare feet the Donkere Duinen woodlands, the Grijze Duinen, the Wadden Sea, the farmland, the Defence of Den Helder and swampy Mariendal.
The bare Foot Path consists of a 250 metre circular walk around our sheep pasture. There is a tree trunk path, play dunes, breakwater and mudflat. There is also a couch hammock in the bulb fields, a raft, a trench and a wobbly bridge with large stepping stones.
The bare Foot Path is free of charge to visitors during opening hours.
The bare Foot Path has eight discovery chests with fun assignments and materials to playfully discover the various types of nature in Den Helder. At the reception desk at the Visitors’ Centre a key can be rented (€ 5 deposit) to open the discovery chests. The assignments take about an hour to complete and cost € 1 per person (5 people can participate per key).
Please note: there is no maintenance on the bare Foot Path during the winter season (1 November - 31 March); the raft and discovery chests are not available during this period.
