Barefoot path

Barefoot path

Feel like exploring your surroundings barefoot? You can at De Helderse Vallei! The Blote Voetenpad lets you discover Den Helder in miniature. Young and old can walk barefoot through the Donkere Duinen woodlands, the Grijze Duinen, the Wadden Sea, farmland areas, Den Helder Defence Line and the Mariëndal marshes.

The barefoot path is a roughly 250 metre long walk that circles around our sheep pasture. There is a log path, a play dune, a miniature dam and an area of mudflats. There is also a log bench in the bulb field, a raft that you move by pulling on a rope, a trench and a wobble bridge with large stepping stones.

The barefoot path is free-of-charge for all visitors during opening hours.

On the barefoot path, you will find 8 discovery boxes containing fun assignments and materials to help you discover the different types of nature in Den Helder in a playful way. You can rent a key (€5 deposit) at the front desk in the Visitor Centre to open the discovery boxes. Completing the assignments takes about 1 hour and costs €1 per person (5 people per key).

Note: the barefoot path is not maintained during the winter season (1 November to 31 March); the raft and the discovery boxes are not available for use during this period.
