Canoeing and stand-up paddling
Special waterway
The Den Helder canoe route is a special, continuous waterway that offers different distances ranging from three to fourteen kilometres. Water enthusiasts can paddle in all directions from De Helderse Vallei, depending on where they feel like going.
Various routes
Four different routes are available for canoeing and stand-up paddling:
- The nature route takes you through the inner dune area on the edge of the municipality of Den Helder. You can download the route here;
- The village route, the southernmost route, runs along the outer edges of Julianadorp. You can download the route here.
- The farmland route intersects the bulb fields. You can download the route here.
- The city and defence line route takes you past Fort Erfprins and Willemsoord. You can download the route here.
A lock is situated close to De Helderse Vallei. You can either take your canoe out of the water here and get back onto the water on the other side of the lock, or you can contact Toeristisch Informatie Punt Willemsoord to inquire about borrowing a key for the lock.
