About us

De Helderse Vallei is a green and healthy place that everyone can enjoy on their own terms. If you wish, you can also participate in an activity, or meet other people here. And if you feel like it, you can also find out what impact your personal behaviour has on the future of the natural environment.

Wide-ranging objectives

Visitor Centre
De Helderse Vallei's great strength is its ability to break sweeping ecological challenges down into understandable and manageable information for a wide audience. De Helderse Vallei provides information, gives examples of sustainability and even ‘demonstrates’ sustainability in a practical setting.

City farm
Our farm has always been a great place for young and old. Not just families with children come to visit the animals, the elderly and visitors with disabilities also find the farm easily accessible.

New wildlife sanctuary
De Helderse Vallei is building a new wildlife sanctuary to provide the care needed by injured or sick wild animals.

Management and remuneration
The foundation is managed by an executive director: Ms K. van Spronsen. There is a Supervisory Board with three members: Mr R. Wijnia (chair), Ms M. van den Berg and Ms R. de Wit-Brandsma. The executive director is employed by De Helderse Vallei Foundation. A grant provided by the Municipality of Den Helder and income from activities and fund-raising are the Foundation’s main sources of income. The members of the Supervisory Board receive no remuneration for their activities. The Supervisory Board operates in accordance with its own guidelines: the Supervisory Framework.
